Post by Kuroda Uchiha on Oct 26, 2023 9:35:27 GMT 10
It had been many months in the making. A decision pushed by the understanding that the Daimyo of the Land of Fire was now actively targeting the Uchiha. Twice within the span of one month, Kuroda had been accosted by would-be assassins. The second assassin had been... worrisome. And now, it felt as though Kuroda Uchiha had no real choice in the matter - not if he wished to keep the Uchiha Clan alive and prosperous.
He was ready and willing to risk open war with Itsuki. And after today, that is exactly what the Uchiha would be doing - declaring open war. Would this bring the Daimyo's enemies to the Uchiha as support? Or would they take advantage of this as a means to destroy the Uchiha once and for all as a threat to themselves?
How many would side with Itsuki after this? How many might side with the Uchiha? Only the future knew that answer. For now... there was only now. Kuroda stands at the head of the some two hundred Uchiha men and women of fighting age and skill. He refused to allow children to join the battle - never again would the Uchiha send children barely into their teenage years or even younger onto the front lines. To Kuroda's right stood Yagura, and to his left stood Hana. Directly behind them stood the huge summoning beast, Ginneko, to whom Kuroda had a contract with.
Whether other Uchiha, such as Tsusho, were available today would be entirely in their own hands. Some needed to be left behind to protect the young and the elderly, just in case the worst should happen today. Kuroda takes in a deep breath, and Hana places her hand on his shoulder. She smiles at Kuroda and nods. Kuroda smiles back, and reaches behind his head to take hold of the shaft of the Uchiha Gunbai. He takes it off his back, and raises it flat face towards the Fire Temple.
"Today - we Uchiha take our destiny into our own hands!" Kuroda shouts so that all within view of him could hear. "Daimyo Itsuki has murdered his own people, ravaged Clans such as the Namikaze, and gone unpunished! Now, he seeks to destroy the Uchiha! THE DAIMYO WILL REGRET THE DAY HE CHOSE TO SPILL THE BLOOD OF HIS OWN!!"
A loud roar of approval rang out through the air, making the very ground shiver.
"Hear me - we fight to take control of this fortress! Kill only those who fight! Spare those who surrender - and respect those that fall!" Kuroda demands loudly. "We take the fortress intact! FOR THE LAND OF FIRE - FOR THE UCHIHA!!"
The two hundred Uchiha warriors chant the words in response. Setting his jaw, Kuroda turns the fan so that the thin edge faces the Fire Temple, and then swings it down to point the Gunbai at it. In that very moment, the Uchiha sprang into action! They begin the forward charge towards the tall walls of the fortress - but they are not doing so blindly. Sabateurs had been strategically placed around the walls in the week leading up to this moment, and also sprang into action! Fireballs suddenly crash into the warning bell towers and archery posts, sending soldiers and monks scattering away from the flames that they had no time to see coming!
The raid to acquire maps of the structure had come in handy, just as Kuroda had hoped.
Now... it was just a matter to see which would fall first. The Fire Temple, or the Uchiha Clan.

[Welcome to the first ever AT on New Era. Please bear with me as I juggle both mechanics and narrative. It has been a long time since I've done this. Due to this being the first of these events. I am allowing a 72 hour period for joining. Starting from 00:00, 27/11, WAST. After this 72 hour period, anyone participating will have 48 hours to post starting from when the person prior to them posts. If you miss this window you are considered to have taken no action and play immediately passes to the next person in the order. This happens automatically and they cannot opt to give you more time.
With that said, let us tell the tale of THE CONQUERING OF THE FIRE TEMPLE!]

"Looks different during the day..." Yōsuru comments with a gentle smirk as he takes another drag of his pipe, filled with gods know what concotion of various desert herbs today. His eyes ran up the imposing walls of the Fire Temple, a grand bastion that looked more peaceful than menacing in the daytime air. Behind him, the Shin contigent he had brought were making preperations. Nothing close to the full size of the clan, for he had felt it might cause an incident if he had tried to sneak the entirety of the Shin into the Land of Fire. Well, more of an incident than he was already causing.
No, this was a small group of the more senior, skilled and eager recruits he had managed to muster. He had tried to pull from a few different clusters, not wanting to sacrifice all of the Clan's most skilled if today didn't go as planned. That was something he hoped wouldn't come to pass. He had promised the Shin peace after he had taken leadership, now he was sending them to battle again. He needed more than blood and corpses to show for this day. Or his clan would never trust him again.
"The signal will come soon!" He announces, turning to face his troops. He takes a knee and looks them all in the eye. He did not stand above them as a king or a general, but as a fellow Shinobi. One who would be charging into the fight along with them. "We know our duty, to strike from this position. The weaker position, to harass and disrupt on the walls and within the Temple if we can manage it. To do what we do best, cause chaos. Anyone who fights back is fair game, non-combatants are a no on killing. Try to keep enemy casualties to a minimum as long as it doesn't negatively effect our odds." He explains, taking another long drag of his pipe. It wasn't through mere compassion that he advised his clanmates to stay their hands, but long-term investment. For the Uchiha to have a legitimate claim to conquest the Land of Fire needed to accept it. And it was far easier to stomach an honourable defeat than a brutal massacre.
"I know a lot of you have been questioning things on the way here. Muttering and asking why we are offering our lives for a clan that was once our enemy. And I have been silent, allowed you to dissent and question and wonder. Because I believe such dissent is important, and because I wanted to see if it would cause you to desert me. It hasn't, and I couldn't be more proud." He extinguishes his pipe and packs it away. "We do this not because I have suddenly become enamoured with Uchiha supremacy, or have decided I want to go to war with the Land of Fire, but because we Shin need to prove that we are more than ignoble corpse defilers. That we are going to be ambassadors marking the first steps towards international co-operation." He takes a deep breath, looking to the horizon to try and see if the signal has been launched yet.
"I can't promise the world will remember our names, but it will remember our deeds. That's for sure...we-" His grand speech making was interrupted by an unscheduled rumbling. His eyes narrow as he feels the tremors below, before widening in shock. "SCATTE-" His command is cut short as the Earth beneath them erupts into rock and fire. Daimyo agents springing from the ground and igniting the campsite.
Ears ringing, Yōsuru tries to clear his blurry vision as he sees the Uchiha signal fire go up. The attack was starting now. The Uchiha would charge without support. "Dammit...Dammit..." He curses, defending himself from an incoming attack by one of the Daimyo agents.

Let's get it! Smoke carried on the wind as the first fireballs slammed into the Temple walls, lapping at the stones. Arata smiled ever so slightly. Ironic, he thought, that the Fire Temple would be assaulted by its own namesake. Far above them, two falcons circled well above the smoke. There was an odd joy in finally moving against Itsuki. Years of grief and anger had knotted themselves around the Namikaze, strangling them. To finally release some of that: to see the towers assaulted, the guards thrown from their posts…
This is the first of many battles, he reminded himself. It wouldn’t do to release everything at once. His revenge against Itsuki wouldn’t come through a child’s tantrum. It demanded planning and careful execution. He owed it to his people—to his parents and siblings, most especially—to see the daimyo toppled.
He took a deep breath before turning to his own clan’s contribution to the assault. There were about ten in total. Modest, perhaps, in size, but they lacked nothing in zealousness. These were shinobi that Arata had hand-picked. Those who understood the bigger picture, who had the skill and the perspective to topple Itsuki’s throne. If he fell, he trusted each of these ninja could take up his work where it had left off.
“My brothers, sisters…” he began, looking each in the eye. “Today is for our fallen. For our mothers and fathers, our siblings, our cousins, our children. They were stolen from us!” He had begun to shout. “Lost because of a coward’s actions! The actions of a man unfit to rule—unfit to lead—unfit to live. He silenced them! He tried to erase the us!”
Angered eyes stared back at him, and Arata recognized a familiar fire stirred up in each of his kin. It was one he knew well at this point. He could feel it now, roaring within him. “The day belongs to our dead! They will not be forgotten. They will not be silenced any longer! We will speak for them—we will make Itsuki remember exactly who the Namikaze are!”
His voice dropped into a harsh whisper, heard only by his clan. “There is nothing more to say. The time for speeches is long past. You all know what to do.”
With solemn nods, each blonde-haired shinobi scattered. Their speed quickly spread them across the battlefield. They would serve as a two-edged sword for the assault: a backbone of communications, linking the whole battlefield for their allies, and a disruptive force which would keep the Temple’s forces scattered and disoriented with hit-and-run tactics. Ten Namikaze, well-utilized, would feel like a hundred.
Arata watched as the two falcons, Hikari and Kurayami, swept down towards him. As they landed, he raised an eyebrow. “How are we looking, you two?”
The young, rash one—Hikari—squawked out his answer. “They run like mice, Namikaze! Little monks and guards. Attack with me now, while they remain in the open!”
Arata nodded, turning his attention toward the older falcon. “And you, Kurayami?”
“I advise caution, Lord Namikaze,” the wise bird said, “for men are not mice, no matter how much they scurry. Traps await the hasty.”

A gentle stream of water trickled down a series of bamboo half-pipes and come to swirl around and nourish a small bonzai tree. The Head Monk of the Fire Temple sat meditating, hands covered by long sleeves as he reflected on the many recent events. A distinct serenity within the zen garden where he dwelled. He thought about a few nights prior. When the Daimyo and his retinue had come to the Fire Temple, the old friends swapped stories until the mood fell grim once more. Itsuki had warned that tensions were brewing, and the theft from the Fire Temple months back had not just been a theft. Yasumon, the Head monk had nodded. Being an experienced Shinobi, even in his retirement. He was well aware that an attack on their impenetrable fortress was indeed coming. And he was nowhere foolish enough to believe that the Temple would remain impenetrable. So, just like the Uchiha Lord had been planning, so too had the Head Monk.
The door to his Zen garden slid open in a flash as one of the junior monks bowed respectifully but hurriedly. "Sensei!" She panted, seemingly having sprinted here as soon as the attacks on the walls had begun. Though he had not heard the devastation outside, Yasumon was already well aware. "We're under attack...th-the Uchiha they're..." Yasumon raised a hand gently, though she knew well enough to be silent when he did so. Slowly, the elder monk rises to his feet. "I am aware Akakita, be calmed." One of his guards raises a curious eyebrow and he looks to them. "Please my friends, ensure the Acolytes are escorted safely out. I don't believe Lord Kuroda would intentionally target children, but I do not intend to take such a risk."
The guard salutes and Yasumon glides elegantly out of the Zen garden, into the ensuing chaos. Though the walls were being battered and assailed. They stood strong for now. The monks on guard duty, though initially surprised were now returning fire. Hurling back Ninjutsu at the besieging hordes. The surprise attack had knocked them off balance, but now it seemed they were determined to hold strong.
As he walked, Yasumon closed his eyes. Speaking telepathically to all the monks within the bounds of the Fire Temple. "Hear me now my friends. We stand in the midst of chaos at our walls. Walls that have never fell, not for centuries. But do not put your faith in cold stone and old traditions now. Put your faith in the Daimyo, put your faith in the Will of Fire!" His words echoed in the minds of the guardians, and they seemed to fight with renewed fervor. One group even scattering a squad of Uchiha who attempted to scale the wall.
"Uchiha Kuroda..." Kuroda would hear the monk's voice inside his mind. "I speak now directly to you. Do not think I am blind to your reasons or your plight. But this brazen act is not the path forward. I beg of you, cease your attack and turn back now. Before more of your clan dies." In all truth, it did not seem like an attempt to psyche him out or cause him to panic. But an earnest call for an end to hostilities. It seemed Yasumon had no desire to take up arms against the Uchiha, but would not hesitate if he had to.
"Sensei! If what the Daimyo spoke is true. The Uchiha may have allies. Allies from the Land of Wind. Is that not cause for war?!" Akakita asked with concern yet nervous excitement in her voice. "It is my understanding that the Daimyo is seeing to that issue..."
It would soon dawn on Kuroda that the resistance they were facing was heavier than planned. Yosuru and his Shin forces were supposed to ambush from another front to detract from the defenders and harass them to allow the Uchiha an easier assault. But it seemed like no such assault was taking place, the Shin had missed their cue and were nowhere to be seen.
A scream would ring out as something impossibly fast impacted a guard on the wall and he plummeted down to the floor below. "What in the hells was that?" Akakita would question, only for Yasumon to let out a bemused sigh. "It would seem the Namikaze are not quite as extinct as they would have us believe."
The Shinobi weren't taking half-measures here. If the attack continued further, Yasumon knew he would have to call upon an old friend.

Kuroda watches as the first wave of Uchiha reach the walls. At first, the sudden assault seemed to take the defenders off guard - a fact Kuroda chose to not take for granted. Noncombatants responsible for field communications, aside from the Namikaze, held up broad flags that signified where forces were to move, and whether to pull back or press their attacks.
Several fans were held high that concerned Kuroda - the ambush by the Shin Clan had been completely prevented somehow, and if the red and yellow fan was anything to go by, the Shin were in danger.
"...Dammit... you can't be serious! How did they know?" Kuroda says, more to himself than to the others. Kuroda turns to one of the Uchiha standing near, and they hold up a blue and yellow fan - the sign of a company being routed. There were less Shin than Uchiha here, and Kuroda didn't want them getting surrounded and cut off from aid.
A voice suddenly rings in his mind, causing Kuroda to wince. Hana took notice, and looks at him.
"Kuroda? What is it?" she asks tentatively.
For a moment, Kuroda is silent as the voice speaks. It warns against continuing the attack -- but for Kuroda, it wasn't that simple. Not anymore.
"Kuroda?" Hana says, stepping closer, letting her concern through in her tone.
"I'm alright Hana. The enemy just spoke to me." Kuroda replies, to Hana's surprise. He answers her unspoken question, "Some kind of jutsu, but I don't think it works two ways. At least, I don't know if it does."
"What did they say?" Yagura asks.
"They want us to call of the attack and leave." Kuroda says curtly. Yagura and Hana look at Kuroda expectantly. "...If we turned away now, it smacks in the faces of those that have died already. Surrender and retreat isn't possible - not while Itsuki remains in power, and sending his assassins. I won't let him do to the Uchiha what he's done to the Namikaze, and others."
Kuroda's expression hardens. Itsuki had already decimated the Namikaze - and members of that Clan were here, now, aiding in the Uchiha Clan's efforts. Turning away would be a betrayal of the Namikaze as well, and an insult to the Shin Clan that had come hundreds of miles from their home to aid as well. No, it wasn't that simple to just call it off.
Kuroda turns to Ginneko.
"Go to the Shin - support them and help them to regroup with the main forces." Kuroda says.
"Ksshaa... Right. About time I can make use of my claws." Ginneko says, the giant cat's silver fur rippling with anticipation.
"Remember - combatants only." Kuroda reminds the summon creature. Ginneko grins toothily, and leaps overhead, and begins a breakneck race towards the known Shin flanking site - a flanking that had been prevented. Hopefully, Ginneko would be useful in that aspect. For a long moment, Kuroda is silent, gazing thoughtfully at the giant metal doors of the temple's entrance.
Suddenly, Kuroda sets his Gunbai to its holder against his back, and leans forward into a fast dash Yagura and Hana catch up quickly. The trio weave through the battlefield, hurtling towards the great walls! Fireballs from Uchiha clash against countering Ninjutsu, creating a momentary blind spot! Utilizing their chakra in their feet, Kuroda and the others reach the wall, and run swiftly up! They appear like phantoms through the smoke, taking the Daimyo soldiers by surprise!
Kuroda twists the arm of his opponent, using their own weight and momentum to hurl the soldier off the wall and crashing down onto an empty food car below! Hana and Yagura take down their foes, giving the trio temporary control of this section of the wall! Other Uchiha, seeing this, are swift to join them, and begin running along the walls to other guardian points.
Kuroda approaches the ledge, and gazes down. Far below, in a well maintained garden, stands a monk who appears, for all intents and purposes, calm. Another stands with him, but is clearly much more concerned. But Kuroda does not confront them, not yet. Not at least until he gets word from Arata and Yōsuru...

One of the ambushers latches themselves onto Yōsuru's back as he quickly spins and throws them off, into the uppercut of one of his fellow Shin. A large man enhanced with the unnatural strength of a Jugo. The assault didn't let up however, more and more ambushers sprouting up from the ground and leaping upon them. The Shin were starting to lose ground.
Yōsuru fell onto his back and his foes took the opportunity to pile upon him, kunai and shortblades at the ready. One particularly zealous attacker managed to drive their knife into his shoulder, causing him to grit his teeth in pain. For a moment there was darkness, then suddenly he could see the sun once more. And more importantly his attackers had been scattered. Blinking in confusion Yōsuru sat up and saw the visage of a mighty cat looming over them, swatting at Daimyo forces with cleaving strikes. "HAHA! YES! How long has Kuroda been hiding you away my friend!" He calls out as he scrambles to his feet, hissing in slight pain as he covers his shoulder wound. Noticing one of the Ambushers readying a fireball to launch at the cat he quickly strikes them in the neck with an in-step kick, causing them to collapse to the floor.
"They'll need you at the main assault old man!" One of the younger of his forces called out to him. She was currently flinging swarms of deadly bees at her opponents, causing them to flail and collapse in a stinging mess. "Aye! Give us two minutes and we'll have this lot sorted. You'd better hightail it over before they start to think we're flaking on them."
Yōsuru at first hesitated. He didn't want to leave his clansmen in the thick of the fight while he ran off. But as he saw them grappling and dodging and flinging jutsu left and right he knew that the Shin were exactly were they wanted to be. In the midst of a great scrap. He had asked them to trust him. Now he needed to trust them. "If any of you miss the victory celebration. I'll be furious!"
With those parting words his pupils narrowed into slits and his skin once again took on that ghostly white and scaled complexion as his serpentine form activated and his blood ran cold. He quickly wrapped his stab wound up in rags and swiftly dashed and weaved his way towards the Uchiha's main assault force. Coming to a stop just behind Kuroda.
"Sorry I'm late, got held up by the welcoming committee."

Arata looked at the two falcons before him. Hikari was hopping around, looking like he might scream. Too much inactivity for that one is a bad thing… Arata reminded himself.
“Very well, you two. Hikari, I sense you’re right—the time to join in the hunt is now. Kurayami, keep your eyes open, lest we ourselves become the hunted.” He could see the old bird’s eyes gleam with a sinister light. Kurayami’s mind was beyond him, but he knew the falcon was cunning. Loyal, too—he hoped—but cunning nonetheless. He would need to keep an eye on her as much as the battlefield. “Now, where can we strike the hardest?”
Kurayami spoke this time, perhaps to cut off Hikari’s likely insistence that they charge into the heaviest combat. “A leader, Lord Namikaze,” she spoke in a prophetic voice. “A monk, with strength and wisdom beyond his kin. He has moved to join. I have seen him. Cut him off now, before he links with his forces. Strike the dragon’s head, and render the rest of the beast useless!”
That was enough for Arata, cryptic as it seemed. He nodded to the two birds, “Follow me.” And within an instant, they were moving as a blur across the battlefield—three streaks of yellow, black, and gray. They, too, shot up the southern wall of the Temple, flying into the air. As Arata came down, he saw Hikari sink his talons deep into a guard’s shoulder, throwing the man from the battlement. Arata himself slammed into an enemy monk, just as the young man had begun weaving signs. A quick strike dazed the fool, and another flipped him over the wall, where he fell into the battle below. They had placed fodder in charge of the walls, it seemed. How strange.
Arata landed, falcons hovering above him, a split second after Yosuru met up with Kuroda. “Ah,” he grinned. “I was wondering when we’d bump into each other. How goes it with your parts of the plan?”

The elder monk watched as the guards on the walls were scattered and routed. They were putting up a stiff resistance. But the rank and file monks, though incredibly skilled to the average person were no match for the training and abilities of Shinobi whom had been trained practically since they could walk. His weathered features looked on sadly at the destruction and death that was transpiring and it seemed his message had fallen on deaf ears as neither the Uchiha nor the Namikaze were letting up in their attack.
"I had hoped when I retired from Itsuki's service that my golden years would be met with solace and tranquility." He remarks, tired voice betraying the deep sadness he was experiencing. "But no, I am faced with doom at my door. And my students dying in droves." His voice is shaky for a moment, but he soon steels himself. His expression hardening into that of a veteran warrior. "So be it, if these Shinobi wish for death. Let them have it." He closes his eyes as the air all around the temple grows hotter and hotter. Leaving throats feeling dry and muscles slightly lethargic. "Tokotobasi, my oldest...dearest friend. I call on you once more to aid me. I pray for the last time." The incantation leaves his lips and he presses his palm to the ground, though there was no summoning scroll nor offer of blood.
Both the monks and the Shinobi would feel the deep rumble below their feet as suddenly the earth beneath a gathered back of besieging Uchiha burst open in a fiery explosion. In the wake of the smoke and debris was the silhouette of a mighty serpent. Its body was long and topped by a crocodillian snout. Its flight propelled by six pairs of ignited wings. The great slumbering Dragon, Tokotobasi had awoken from beneath the surface.
With a series of hand seals the air seemed to shimmer with heat and the fires surrounding the dragon grew to a blue heat. It swooped down, torching any attacking Shinobi it was able to reach with its inferno like breath. Roaring all the while. Caught in the path of its blaze was the central command. Kuroda and his cohorts, Yosuru Shin and Arata Namikaze.

Kuroda nods in appreciation as Arata and Yōsuru appear at his sides. Ginneko too arrives, having helped deal with the large swath of foes that had ambushed the Shin. Some still remained, but nothing the Shin wouldn't be able to manage on their own now. Kuroda gazes down at the Head Monk, his jaw set in determination as he watched the elder man observing the fighting now spilling onto and over the walls.
"That is most likely the leader. These are monks, not a standing army. If we can capture him, we might be able to force a surrender." Kuroda says.
"In that case, I'll do this." Hana says, forming several hand signs in quick succession. As she does, her Sharingan activates! "Uchiha Formation: A!"
Hana places her hands against Kuroda's back, and he feels her chakra spilling into him, strengthening him! Kuroda nods at Hana in thanks, and turns back to the enemy leader below. He watches - and is shocked to see the Monk perform a summoning - a Dragon! Ginneko hisses as the Dragon rises into the air, and Kuroda grimaces.
"Everyone - brace yourselves!" Kuroda shouts! He reaches up, and leaps into the air! He pulls the Uchiha Gunbai off his back, and holds it firm in front of himself, and shouts, "Uchiha Reflection!!"
The blazing ball of fire aimed for Kuroda crashes into the Gunbai - and disappears! The Gunbai glows bright, and a sudden, powerful blast of white light erupts from the Gunbai and races towards the Dragon! Hana, was not able to defend herself against the fireball, being thrown back from the blast impacting near her!
Yagura, never one to back down, slammed his hand into the stone flooring of the wall, and clutches into it! "Earth Release: Great Shattering Sword!!" He pulls a large stone blade from the wall, and leaps towards the flames aimed for him! With a loud battle cry, Yagura cuts right through the flames, and swings the blade hard at the dragon!
Ginneko too leapt into action! It leaps like lightning made flesh at the Dragon, and slashes at the great creature!

The dynamic trio were back at it again. With old companions and new joining them this time. "The birds are new additions." Yōsuru nods to the hawks circling above Arata as the huge cat creature slams down behind the group. "And of course this fine beast. You're both making me feel underdressed." He remarks, the 's' sounds extended in his words given his reptilian state of being.
"My forces were beset by ambushers. Didn't appear to be monks, these seemed like Daimyo forces. Somehow he knew we were coming, and not only that. Exactly where we were going to be and when." He grimaces, now was not the time to bring up the possibility of a mole in their ranks, but the issue still weighed on his mind. "Regardless, I trust my clan to repel them. So let's do our part here. It seems the walls are being breached handidly. Where do we go from her-" His sentence was cut off by the eruption nearby and before he could even speak there was a colossal flaming beast descending down upon them. He didn't need to be told twice to scatter. His enhanced reflexes served him well to narrowly swerve the inferno that descended upon them. It seemed Hana Uchiha was not quite as prepared. He watched her be thrown aside by the initial explosion and as he saw another fireball headed down towards her and her husband still repelling the flames he fought every instinct within him to preserve himself and threw himself towards Hana, shooting arcing lightning up through the fire and seperating the pure heat so that it dispersed harmlessly above them. The remainder of his lightning surging towards the beast's mighty scales as Yōsuru took some deep breaths.
"You're meant to celebrate victory with roasted meat. Not become it yourself." He chides playfully, giving her a quick check for any serious wounds. It seemed like she was fine barring a couple of scrapes as far as he could tell.
"Kuroda!" He calls to the Uchiha Lord. "Arata!" And so too to the Namikaze. "That first volley was likely just a probing strike. We need to make a move before our forces get roasted alive by that thing!" The beast was massive, it felt like even if they damaged it they wouldn't do enough to prevent it from striking again.

Arata was still thinking up a witty comment about the reunion of their trio—him and his two allies—when the ground erupted beneath them. From the rubble below emerged a writhing beast, wreathed in flames. It burst into the air, turning and diving toward the alliance leaders. Out of the corner of his eye, Arata could see the head monk performing some sort of ritual jutsu, seemingly strengthening the beast. Another monk stood by his side, not doing anything in particular. Was he a weak point? Or a secret weapon?
The Namikaze had little time to strategize. Flames rushed down upon him and the others, and each of the five leapt into action. He watched as the others all clashed with the flames, deploying their own jutsu in response. Wise. The dragon was met with a wild burst of attacks from Uchiha and Shin alike—flame and lightning and claws mixing in mid-air.
The Namikaze was not sure why he did it—his body had long known to simply act in battle, rather than get caught up in thinking through every motion—but he accelerated into the flames. For the briefest moment, he could feel the intense heat wrapping around him, singing his clothes and skin. He endured it for only a second, though, dashing forward in a blur of blue and yellow. The hawks were beside him in an instant, their instinct for the hunt far sharper than his own. Wind chakra wrapped around Arata’s legs, carrying him forward even further as Hikari shrieked out a battle cry. Meanwhile, Kurayami had set her sights upon their target: the idle monk from earlier. With a flash of lightning emerging from beneath her wings—and accompanied by a boom of thunder—Arata could get a sense for what the poor monk was experiencing. The Namikaze had seen this genjutsu before: one where lightning and cloud seemed to wrap you up in a vice grip. He almost pitied the monk.
For his own part, though, Arata wrapped wind chakra around his staff. And then, in an instant, he was behind the monk—a figure of speed, still partially on fire from the dragon’s attack. “You’ll just be getting in the way.” He commented, before swinging the chakra-sharpened weapon at his opponent.

Tokotobasi
The dragon completed its initial pass, scattering much of the Uchiha and Namikaze combined forces and disrupting their assault. Its attack was not perfect, and it was met with heavy resistance as well. One of its own blasts of fire was nullified and sent back as a shot of pure chakra as a bolt of lightning struck his scales simultaneously, causing him to growl in frustration. It was only when a sword of earth and rock plunged between his scales and the steely claws of a massive cat clawed his underbelly that he let out a roar of distinct pain. It seemed he had underestimated the small creatures on the ground below.
As he flew his eyes turned to his stoney assailant. And with a roll it shook Yagura free, opening its mouth wide to swallow the little Uchiha whole in its blazing jaws.
Yasumon + Akakita
The Elder monk watched the destruction and the mayhem through his closed eyes, perceiving through the vision of his draconic companion. It brought him no joy to see this amount of violence wrought on a grand scale, but he had sworn and oath to the Daimyo and to his fellow monks to defend this temple no matter the cost.
Even though he was in a meditative state, that did not make Yasumon unaware. His long grey beard blew gently in the wind as Arata made his approach towards the unaware and unsure looking young Akakita. The girl turned and flinched moments too late as the Namikaze blitzed forth with insane speed to practically cleave her in two. But he would find his strike stopped just short, his staff gripped in a flaming ethereal arm sprouting from Yasumon's shoulder blade. The elder monk inhaled deeply as his eyes slowly opened, the arm of fire tensing and trembling slightly as it held back the sheer mach force that was Arata's strike.
Yasumon looked over to the Shinobi, without a hint of anger or fury in his tired gaze. Merely echoes of sorrow, and possible remorse. "Lord Namikaze, I truly wish it were under better circumstances that we met. Your reputation truly precedes you." As he spoke his pupil would jump up from behind the arm and attempt to strike Arata's face with a spinning back fist. Whether or not she hit Yasumon would release the staff and push Arata back a few steps. He opened his mouth as if to speak, wishing to offer his condolences for the fate of the Namikaze clan, but he thought better of it. Knowing that from an enemy it would sound like nothing but empty platitudes.
"I am aware it would be foolish to ask for your surrender, so I won't waste your time. But if at any point you do wish to do so, I promise you will be spared." He offers calmly and without a hint of mockery.
"Sensei! Let me fight him, allow me to test my ski-..." Akakita was cut off in her words by Yasumon swiftly raising a hand to silence her, looking over his shoulder and shaking his head at his student. "Were it not for my intervention young one, you would be dead. Even I am unsure I can face him alone. I ask that you support me only." Begrudgingly, Akakita nodded her head.
"I ask only this, Lord Arata Namikaze. If I fall to you, you may take my life as recompense for the sins of my lord. I ask only that you spare my students. I am not innocent, but they are." With his plea made, Yasumon stands tall, finally ready to fight. It seemed Arata was going to see if the rumours of the Fire Temple's most senior were true.
The winds gust around them, only time would tell how the scales of power would tip from here.

Kuroda lands inside the courtyard, having thrown himself over the wall to intercept the attack meant for him. He whips his head back, and sees Yōsuru helping Hana after her having been blown back by the strength of the fireball striking at her. He grimaces, and looks up at the dragon - they had dealt considerable damage to it when - no!
"YAGURA!!!" Kuroda shouts, horrified at the potential fate of his cousin.
"Ah hell!" Yagura shouts just before the dragon's maw closes around him! The stone sword miraculously still kept in his hand, and the world went black - the jaws slam shut, stunning the Uchiha for a moment. But the sensation of beginning to slide into the beast's throat brought urgency back into his mind. "Oh I don't think so, you scaly bastard!! You aren't getting this meal without some severe indigestion!!"
With that, Yagura, knowing his life could very well about to end, turns the sword tip over, and thrusts at the dragon's uvula!
Kuroda, thinking Yagura was lost, grits his teeth in anger. The scrolls hadn't said anything about the Head Monk having a Summon; but he should have known better. The dragon was too high now, so launching his Jutsu at it may not be useful - after all, he didn't want to accidentally hit Ginneko - whom now clung to the dragon's side, its claws dug deep between the scales!
"Ssshaaa!! You'll regret that!" Ginneko hisses ferociously, his great yellow eyes meeting the eye of Tokotobasi. The great cat, climbs to the dragon's back, and his claws lengthen! Ginneko scrambles forward, and attempts to drive the lengthened claws through Tokotobasi's back between the shoulder blades!
Kuroda turns to Yasumon, his eyes narrow and jaw set with determination. Suddenly, Arata appears, and strikes at the much younger monk! Yasumon intercepts the attack; that much, Kuroda suspected would likely happen. Yasumon had seen this temple fortress through tides of enemy attacks in the past. His great skill was legendary among Shinobi.
"It will not be your life with which the Daimyo pays for his injustices." Kuroda says, approaching the three, short sword in his left hand, and Uchiha Gunbai in his right. "You say you knew the reasons for my plight - which means you know full well what Itsuki has done, and continues to do his own people. I will no longer stand aside - the Uchiha will no longer turn a blind eye to his corruption and murder."
Kuroda swings the Gunbai around, pointing it at Yasumon.
"I have declared war against the Daimyo - for the Namikaze Clan which he saw nearly destroyed. For the people of this nation that he abuses. And for his attempts on my life." Kuroda says grimly. "The Uchiha Clan will be destroyed if I choose to be idle - Itsuki has proven this already by sending assassins, when I have done nothing to bring them to my door other than be kind to visitors to my home."
Kuroda gazes at Yasumon.
"So whether we are destroyed in war, or destroyed in our homes, slain in our beds, it makes no difference." Kuroda declares. "At least death in defiance is preferable to death by knife in the night, or poison in our food."
Kuroda slams the end of the Gunbai onto the ground. It was taking a great deal of self control not to let Yagura's fate control his emotions, and in turn his emotions control him. But this was the reality of war.
"I ask that you surrender, Yasumon." Kuroda says, his voice heavy with conviction. "Surrender the Temple, and you may leave unharmed. Or you may stay... And help me bring justice to our land, and find someone who to lead this land and truly believes in the Will of Fire. I do not wish to destroy more lives than I have to. But Itsuki will be cast from his bloody throne. I have come to claim this temple so act as a bastion against Itsuki not only for the sake of the Uchiha, but for those else who would stand with us against him."
Hana, for her part, grunts against the pain of her burns, mostly on her face and hands.
"...Agh... thanks Yōsuru... I'd prefer to not become a roast either." she says, straining a chuckle. She stands with his help, and looks down at Kuroda, and then around for Yagura. "Wait... Where's...?"
She suddenly looks up, seeming to realize what happened. Her eyes widen with horror. She could strike at the dragon, but her chakra reserves were low - she needed to recover first. She closes her eyes with a heavy heart, believing Yagura dead, and prays for his peaceful passing. When her eyes open, she looks at Yōsuru.
"I can strengthen you, Yōsuru." she says. "I just need to recover my chakra - and I can do for you what I did for Kuroda!"

Yōsuru too hears the jaws snap shut on the dragon and notices Yagura no longer falling from the sky as he had been before. His reaction is not nearly as shocked or hurt as those of his Uchiha compatriots. The Serpentine form quelled most of those emotions while it was active. "I thought my Serpentine form was impressive, but with that thing flying around I feel almost underdressed."
He stands up, leaving Hana to catch her breath as a few of his Shin come to land nearby. They inform him that they've fended off the Daimyo ambushers. Though it's possible they'll send more. "We've not enough numbers to garrison the wall. Tend to the wounded, any of our allies that are in trouble, pull them out." He gives his orders, and the Shin that remain nod and go to carry them out.
He offers Hana a hand up once she's had a few moments to breathe. "Don't waste chakra on me, Lady Uchiha." He smiles softly before his expression becomes serious again. "I have a feeling that Monk hasn't shown off all the tricks in his repetoire just yet. The last thing we need is you caught off guard." He casts his gaze up to the sky. To watch the dragon for a few more moments. "I'll have to trust the cat with bringing that thing down. I'd hate for Kuroda and Arata to have too much fun without me."
He gestures his head for Hana to follow him as he moves with a speed only just sub-Namikaze and scales the wall in an instant. Landing on a nearby rooftop to Yasumon, Akakita, Arata and Kuroda. "I'd just like it to be known this isn't a declaration of war. I'm basically an independent contractor." He jokes lightheartedly. He knew Kuroda was likely still hurting from the sudden loss of his cousin, but now wasn't the time to be distracted by that.
The stage was set, now how would the act play out?
