Prospecting
The trip to Tonika Village had been planned for months. It was all in the hopes of finding a new type of mining-zone near Shumatsu Valley so that the Kinata clan could, secretly even, go back to plying their original trade of mining and excavating with their sonic powers. It had taken alot to even get to a point of discussions where the village heads would even meet with him, yet Retsu's tenacity and consistency in such made them wear down and eventually accept is request for a tour of their facilities.
The clan that protected the place seemed quite particular about their duties. It had taken quite a bit just to get the meeting setup with their village heads, to mention little of how much effort it took t oget an agreement to let them check things out for themselves within their minds. With an agreement to not 'take' anything from their mines, but only let them know if the Kinata had managed to find new veins of ore, the village heads of Tonika Village had agreed to let Retsu and his two advisers check things out.
Truly, not enough for a real prospecting team, but the young leader would make due. He had to atleast prove their people had a knack for mining and drilling, beyond what the people of the village could do. Otherwise any chance of working to craft a decent supply chain, as well as formative alliance between one of the many villages within the Land of Fire would be ruined before they began. As the small horse driven wagon was pulled into town, the trio would look about.
It wasnt much to look at for the most part. A simple mining town, but that was what made it all the more impressive to the group whom had travelled from Shumatsu Valley. With things before them as they were, it was clear to see that even if they had skill, there was no way the group that had lived in these lands, and mined these caverns had even come close to scratching the surface of what htey could find and take out of the emptiness below. There was a renewed sense of vigor that hadnt been there in some time. A true realisim. This could work! This could be the break they needed to branch off from teh Daimyo's request for his people.
He was conflicted, sure. The leader hadnt had any desire to see his people turned into slaves, eavesdroppers and snitches. The idea of such made him sick to his stomach, and it was one of the primary reasons he was so willing to get things moving in a direction that led to more mining and industrial work. Even as they pulled through the village, is derelict but kindhearted state a sight to behold, they felt themselves losing track. This felt too much like home back in the Land of Rice.
Soon, they'd need to meet up with their contact..And soon, a new life.

Up to this point in his life, his uncle had been a decently good teacher as far as someone who frankly wasn't a skilled shinobi could be to one looking to become one. Given the rest of his clan back home were training and likely far ahead of his own skills, it he had fallen behind in a multitude of ways but the one that was seeded deep within his blood, and unfortunately it was a matter of seeking out others for training. Masshiro's uncle certainly meant well, but he was in truth little more, especially these days, than an armorsmith and a bit of a jeweler to a lesser degree, which of course brought the young man to where he was today. Tonika Village was to be rich with mining potential, but most importantly places that were willing to sell ore. For all the good intentions he had of helping find what his uncle needed, he wasn't sure he could do much in regards to swinging a pickaxe, and for all he wished otherwise, his genjutsu prowess certainly wasn't going to trick the ore into following him home. What they really needed was somewhere to buy a steady supply to build up an inventory, but his uncle was too stubborn to go out and look himself bluntly, which meant these trips were becoming more frequent the more his business increased. Where to even start looking seemed like it would be easy enough given the size of the village, but there was far less obvious signs than what he was used to, and even the pathways looked like they were more meant for horses or carts and carriages pulled by them for mining equipment than people. He stuck out like a sore thumb here, given his choice of clothing, and the red that stuck out with so little of it around, his straight-white hair in perfection condition even after traveling here. Turning and stepping out of the road he was standing in the middle of, he saw a wagon approaching and immediately flagged them down, hoping they'd at least have an idea of what was going on better than he did, speaking loudly to them as they got closer.
"Any chance you could point me towards a location in this village to purchase ore? Someone in charge of the mines, even?"

Retsu was settling in and getting his gear out of the wagon when a voice from behind caught his attention. He didnt wish to be rude so he turned around and greeted them before they came upon him. Smiling and hearing their question he'd consider for a time if he recalled where it was.
"Sadly, Im a visitor as well. This isnt my village. Im trying to work with the village elder to arrange some mining rights. Im staying at the hotel here you see."
An incline of his head as he'd point towards the shopping distract. He'd atleast remembered the modest district. It wasnt like a city, these people were more shut in then that. But he'd recall very clearly that they had given him enough of a tour to point things out. So as he did so he'd express very clearly.
"I believe there is some stores that way. Though whether or not htey sell ore is hard to say. I didnt get a chance to peruse their wares. Very quiet city yknow...they're kinda shutins.."
He'd look up to the other and take their features in before introducing himself fully. He hadnt yet but he felt the need to. After all, what kind of person speaks this entire time and doesnt at least say hello? He wouldnt wish to be rude of course! That wouldnt be a good first impression at all! Clearing his throat, he'd offer a respectful bow before expressing;
"My name is Retsu Kinata, Of the Kinata Clan. It's nice to meet you. I am sorry I couldnt be of more help but its a bit hard to say what is and isnt when your also a visitor. Still, I hope that does help even a little. May I ask what brings you here?"

There was no hiding the extent his body slumped and deflated at the initial response. It wasn't likely the first person he came across was going to know all his answers, and the fact they came in the way they did was a red flag they were visiting all the same, but he really didn't want to have to go walking around asking everyone who would meet his gaze what he needed. It was a start, as at least this one did bother to look up as he tried flagging them down, given more than a few that pretended not to notice him when he first arrived. "Shut ins; That would explain things. I tried flagging down a few when I came into town and the ones that didn't avert there gaze simply pretended not to nice before going inside." Someone giving information and being polite, even introductions too boot, well this was new. He had been so used to entering and leaving these types of places without saying a word, or the locals in more than a few villages not wanting to speak that he himself hadn't done more than flag someone down like a waving lunatic. "I'm familiar with the clan name, but you'd be the first I've met. Seems a common theme as of late. Well, it's nice to meet you, Retsu Kinata. I'm Masshiro Kurama, of Clan Kurama. Unlikely you've met many of us as my clan aren't from this country." Looking around for a moment, he noticed the streets were near cleared out besides the two of them. It was likely most were out working, but it was a bit eerie all the same. "To try and give the shortest version of a long story, my uncle is an armorsmith and he is too stubborn to come out here himself. He needs ore and supplies, and a lot of both. I don't know a mine from a big hole in the ground, but I know what we need and that we need a lot of it constantly. Trying to find someone that has a lot to sell or is willing to trade permanently and regularly. That, as I say, is the short version."

Granting a nod was the easiest way to respond to the comment about the people of this place being shut-ins. It was best not to be rude about the town you were visiting, so to tread cautiously, he would chuckle and express himself very well;
"Yes, well, after such conflicts in the past, Im sure there's many outlying clans in this region that keep to themselves. Not everyone is as social as other clans. Still, they have a good eye for business and ore so I came to find some contracts in mining."
There was a clear distinction of irritance from the other as speaking of the towns desire to ignore versus engage. They could understand some of it. Yet even still, there was no reason to push themselves, so as they introduced themselves, the nin would smile.
"You're right. I havent met many of your people, but its a pleasure all the same. To hear my clans recognition has travelled throughout the land is kind of surprising! I'd figure our newer clan would be known but not that known."
As the other spoke of their reason for being here, their uncle being an Armorsmith, the Kinata-nin would begin to unerstand more and more. This was a desire for trade with them as well. A pause for a time as he'd consider.
"Well, I know they dont really contain their desire for such things to outsiders, so perhaps if they do agree to my terms, and I do continue my peoples mining operations, we could figure out a way to help you out a bit. Truth be told, It wouldnt be a bother. My people love finding rare ores and minerals. Having trade partners is the easiest way to distribute them."
With a laugh and a hearty one at tht, the young man would look towards the Kurama-nin.
"So, if you'd like why dont you join me for our entourage. Im sure you could figure something out with them."

"I tend to find those that choose to shut themselves off are left with little more than being shut off. Then they eventually blame others for being isolated, never remembering what started it in the first place but blame others all the same." He returned with his own response and a heavy shrug. Perhaps it was simply due to his blunt nature that he tended to feel this way and more so say it openly, but it was equal parts well-received and scoffed at.
"If they can help solve my problem then they can build high walls and glare at newcomers all they like. I don't have to agree with it to hand them my money." There was a moment of wanting to immediately dash the hopes of this stranger and tell him the little he had heard was from his uncle, and absolutely nothing else, but he simply returned with a smile. The clans in this country as he was still learning, were very proud, and surprisingly open to word spreading about them for various reasons. It was something he still couldn't get used to even after the years away from his own. "Word travels fast in this country I've learned. In due time I'm sure I'll hear even more." He was far more interested in this other talk of mining and potential trade, at least at present. The last thing he wanted after all was to go home empty handed in the literal sense. "I can't turn that down, so I'll follow you. As far the rest of that, you've got my attention. If you have materials to sell I can assure you we have the currency to pay for them. I was surprised to find the high demand for blacksmiths, weaponsmiths, and armorsmiths in this country, so my Uncle is never hurting for work. The land of earth, where I was born, every other child that isn't part of a shinobi clan in seems to aspire to swing a hammer at something, so it's strange seeing so few of them here in comparison."

"I see, but remember war wasnt that far behind them. Many still hold fears and concerns over what had been, rathr then what would maybe come. So its not unlike them to have a good reason for such. Infact, I think its more then fair in many cases to be cautious with outsiders. If not, then you'd have more situations like my home country.."
The young nin would sigh, as he'd look towards them. It was clear he had come from another land, not the land of fire, but he had also, initially, understood what it was to be in charge of others. So he could get it. nevertheless, it would be another thing to hear.
"Well, I dont know that walls and glares have much to do with it. Though if the attitude persisted im sure you wont win anyone over. Here's my suggestion, rather then being a bit more heavy handed with cash doing your talking, perhaps walking among them and talking to the townfolk whom are open to it, would help."
He'd gesture to the few food stands and outdoors hops that were being tended to.
"Shopkeeps and inn-owners are hte easiest, though admittedly.."
He'd laugh.
"Its hard to get a leg in I get cha. So!"
As he'd hear the rest.
"Well, we do have some rare minerals from afar, we build our island town with it. But mostly, our unique jutsu helps us find hidden ores and more beneath the surface. Its quite a unique proccess, IM sure we can show you some things."
Without much further fanfare, he'd begin walking among the townfolk and getting into his schpeel. He did meet resistance at first, but would soon be directed to the mines. He wondered if the Kurama would follow.
"So, beyond armorsmithing, what kinda stuff do you do? Sounds like your just running errands."

"Maybe I'm projecting a bit. There are very few that share my blood here in this country, which you may or may not be able to understand if you aren't from this country either. My clan chose to keep to themselves and now that I'm here it's hard to look back fondly on their actions and reasoning. That's a story for another time." His face immediately wrinkled as it felt like he was being scolded, something he had never taken to as it happened so infrequently. Maybe there was a good point here, but he wasn't internalizing it as much as was likely intended, but he didn't exactly make it obvious past a few facial expressions.
"What I normally do tends to not...how do I say this....my actions don't lend themselves to greeting strangers too often. I keep busy, and in most instances when something is needed it's ordered or brought to us in some form, or my uncle has already gotten it before I was even aware." It was hard to just come out and say he was usually busy tracking targets in various forms or essentially casting genjutsu on others without them ever being aware of his presence. He didn't often greet shop keepers, and he certainly didn't tend to go out like this to these villages, so his social skills lacked tact. "When I said I heard of your clan earlier, I meant that in the literal sense of hearing the name. I am completely unaware of what it is you are capable of. My clan and our jutsu certainly wouldn't do much good for any sort of gathering. My uncle shares my blood but he had no ambitions of being a shinobi and his gifts never properly manifested, so he does what he does. I am not the one working with my hands." Holding out his hands he showed how near perfectly smooth and manicured they were. He had spoke of clans and shinobi, so he was obviously one to some extent, but his attire and his smooth skin seemed to say otherwise. If not for the clear scar across his otherwise unblemished face, it would have been hard to believe.
"I do a lot of traveling, and a lot more I can't speak on. I'm not the hands on type, because I rarely have to be, which is thanks to my clans gifts I guess you could say. I could make an attempt to demonstrate, but it's rarely a pleasant experience. Most aren't fond of being on the receiving end of genjutsu."
