whispers of the wind
This new world was fascinating. Change had overtaken the world in the many centuries that had passed since he'd been imprisoned. Things that had been made were lost, and things that were lost had been found, and what he knew was challenged in regular abundance. Miyamairi's curiosity burned with a fierce desire to discover what had become of the legendary sages who had shaped his own time. He wasn't sure if the pull he felt to unravel the mysteries of their fate came from himself, or from the faint whispers of Jashin's will he could swear still lingered in the wind. Driven by this desire, he was drawn through the Kingdom of Earth, to the Sabaki Valley. Once a desolate crag in his time, he had known that Yaksha, the Sage of Wind, had always fostered a special liking for it. As he traversed the rugged terrain of the valley, his pitched eyes sparkled as flora and fauna of mysterious kinds moved past him. He smiled at the beauty of this alien place. Yaksha had always been closely attuned to nature, and to the spirit of things. He had told stories to the children at the Castle Ōtsutsuki of the natural world, and it's many wonders. He had transformed this crag into a garden, it seemed. But what had drawn him there was not just his fond memories of Yaksha, but a story he'd heard. Whispered across the campfire, one monk had told Miyamairi by the roadside of a shrine he'd discovered deep within the valley, while seeking medicine for his sister's chakra sickness. Turning the corner, it was exactly as the monk had described it. It was carved into a cliffside, covered with plants of all shades in the rainbow, with a statue at least a couple hundred years old out the front. The statues were at least ten foot tall, eroded by age but still clear depictions of a toad, a snake and a slug. A thick fog roiled out from the open doorway. "What've you hidden away here...?" Miya whispered to himself, scanning the surroundings as he heard a rustling nearby. Was it a vengeful spirit? | To others, the world wasn’t as new. Perhaps, in truth, not new enough. With the wounds from the decades of war still fresh in the minds of many, to them the world was the same. Cold, callous. Only because they saw wounds as wounds, and not something to be healed, or something that can heal.
The same could not be said about Aen. To him, the world was not new enough. He saw beyond wounds as wounds, he saw the chance to heal, to progress. The world need not be cold or callous if it is not allowed to be. This was part of why he had left his home to travel the world and grow. To find those in need, to help them— to become a beacon of hope, to become proof that there was more to the world than pain.
Aen’s travels had lead him far and wide in this regard, he had found many allies and secrets. One secret still eluded him, not that he expected it to be easy to figure out the sacred technique developed by the Ninshu Sage of Wind; Yaksha. What Aen had uncovered is that it had many advanced components to it— particularly the use of neutral chakra at first, and being able to expertly shape it before adding the elements to it rather than simultaneously or afterward.
In any case, rumors as of late implied that some form of lead could be located in Sabaki Valley— and really any hint would be great at this point. Floating above the ground with Jiyū hidden under his cloak, Aen made his way into Sabaki Valley, making sure to not disturb the natural mists as he did so, this way he could better conceal his presence from the local fauna or even some malicious lurkers.
The most recent clue that Aen had involved a strange cave that had statues of some sacred animals; supposedly a slug and a toad. Rounding a corner, Aen saw an adult Shinobi lurking around a small bush with a kunai in their hand, and someone else near the mouth of a cave— it looked to be a young kid, not older than fifteen, seemingly unaware of the danger. With the quick clench of his fist, Aen dislodged a rock from above the assailant, dropping it hard onto the top of their head, knocking them out with a sad thud onto the ground. Floating down to the person he knocked out, Aen pilfered their weapons, stowing them away in his own toolset. “Hey, kid! You okay?” Aen asked, looking towards the stranger examining the cave as he heard commotion in the distance. There were more Shinobi on the way, Aen could sense them. “More of them?! Tch!” Aen glared in the direction that he sensed them, holding an arm out to the side as if to protect who he saw as an unarmed civilian child.

whispers of the wind
Miyamairi's heart raced as they heard the thud of the assailant falling to the ground behind them. They turned around, their hand instinctively reaching for weapon, as if they had one. They did not. Before they could react, they saw a figure floating down gracefully, disarming the fallen attacker and stowing away their weapons. It was a relief to know that they were not alone in this dangerous situation. As the stranger approached, concern etched on their face, Miyamairi couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude mixed with curiosity. This person had intervened just in time, saving them from a potential threat. "I... I'm alright," Miyamairi replied, their voice slightly shaky. "Thank you for saving me, I hadn't seen that man."Miyamairi glanced at the mouth of the cave, their eyes flickering with a mix of anticipation and caution. The fog that rolled out from the doorway seemed to beckon them, its mysterious allure growing stronger with each passing moment. "I was drawn to this place by rumors of a shrine hidden within these cliffs," Miyamairi started to explain, before the stranger mentioned that more of them were on the way. As the commotion in the distance grew louder, Miyamairi's gaze sharpened, their senses heightened. They could sense more shinobi approaching, their chakra signatures becoming clearer by the second. "We should proceed with caution," they warned, their voice tinged with urgency. "Yes, there are others on their way, more shinobi. And as I have learned in this world, shinobi almost never have good intentions. I am no fighter but together we stand a better chance of protecting ourselves."Miyamairi stepped forward, running one hand over the other and weaving a small cluster of yellow chakra in a ball above their palm, holding it ready for when they appeared. "I suspect they are here for the temple. We mustn't let anyone inside, men like these are not worthy of Yaksha's secrets." Miyamairi said, their voice betraying a familiarity that was unusual, as it sounded like they were talking about someone they knew instead of someone who had died several centuries ago. | Aen’s eyes darted around while he moved seemingly in tandem with something else not entirely within his line of sight quite yet. He was glad to hear that the kid just behind him was alright, giving them a quick glance just to make sure all the same. “You’re not too shocked to move, right?”
Regarding the cave, Aen was more or less here for the same purpose. “I’ve heard similarly.” He was hoping that whoever else was out there didn’t, or if they did, that they had less information. In time, the sounds of those approaching could be clearly heard, and at this distance they could also be detected by other senses more accurately such as the ability to sense Chakra. “Yeah, five of them. Tight formation. They intend to rush us if they keep to it.” Which, given the ego some groups of Shinobi had these days, was highly likely.
This kid spoke strangely about the one Aen knew as a historical figure— there was a certain degree of familiarity. Maybe this kid was a lot more scholarly than Aen and felt closer to the people that he read about? Questions for later. Whatever the case, the youth was correct. “Right, knowledge like that cannot fall into the wrong hands and possibly be abused by those who are cruel.”
A few moments later, five Shinobi could be seen in the distance all rapidly approaching close together, making vocal attempts at threats of violence, death and that whatever treasure was beyond this point would be theirs. Aen smirked somewhat mischievously, readying himself in a battle-ready stance. “Five against three. Not exactly a fair fight... For them.” Wait... Three? |

whispers of the wind
Wait... three? Miyamairi searched their senses again, certain that even though the air around them permeated chakra that disturbed the sensory art, that there was not an additional creature around to be sensed by them. "I see only the two of us, but perhaps I am mistaken," they said rather normally despite the impending battle. They had no weapons to grab to prepare, but they did heighten their focus on the yellow orb forming in their hands. "Yaksha taught me well..." they mumbled to themselves, trying to gain confidence as the shinobi rushed in. It had been hundreds of years, but tight battle formations were still relatively the same. It seemed the basics of combat, even if it was now employed for all of the wrong reasons, had not changed. One of the shinobi pounced towards Miyamairi. "Amenomihashira!" Miya shouted, stepping forward to counter the shinobi with the orb in hand, and the shinobi's face was met by that orb. It ruptured like a balloon, the crazed clusters of chakra inside exploding. The shinobi threw up handsigns for a barrier, but they weren't quick enough. They were blown back into the mist and Miya didn't know if they'd beaten them or not, but the other four were closing in with their formation. Looking at the stranger on their side, Miya backed up. "I hope you are a better fighter than I am, or we may perhaps be 'boned'." Miya said, and the word boned sounded alien in their mouth, like new and bizarre slang that had only just recently discovered.
