HP: 340 (440 with C.A.) | Chakra: 17 | Regen: 5/post TAGS: Saburo NOTES: Notes here Arata landed gently, rustling only a few leaves as he leapt from the forest onto the rooftop of a roadside inn. The raucous laughter, typical for this time of evening, would cover up any sounds of his movement. He padded his way down the roof, taking a moment to appreciate how the light pouring out of the windows below illuminated the tiles beneath his feet just enough. Dim outlines provided a better sense of balance.
Shadows shifted on the ground below as the door to the inn exploded open. The rowdy noises of a crowd poured out into the night for a brief moment before the door slammed back shut again. The figure of a man, silhouetted now, staggered over to bushes a few paces from the road. Arata squinted at the figure, confirming his suspicions, before his face broke into a soft smile. “Would you look at that,” he whispered. It was the target. His target.
He dropped silently to the ground, pulling a kunai out of his pouch. He would make it a quick kill. This was not pleasant work. There was no need to make it any less pleasant for either party. The man, who had now begun to retch in the bushes, wasn’t a bad man, necessarily. His high position in Itsuki’s regime hinted at his morals—or lack thereof—but little of his work was public. All Arata knew was that the man before him had made himself an indispensable cog in the daimyo’s rule—and that meant that he needed to be disposed of. Taking a life now would save hundreds in the battles to come. The Namikaze frowned, tightening his grip on the kunai, and dashed forward.

The Shinobi had been traveling by night, wishing to reach his next destination as soon as possible. Upon seeing the roadside inn, he had decided against his initial thought to stay there for the night, catching some rest before eventually getting back on the road in the early morning. Though he did not mind outside camping, the comfort of a bed was hard to refuse, as was the potential company. An inn was the perfect excuse to get to listen to some stories from the locals, the perfect way to gain knowledge of the region.
As he drew closer, he observed a figure walking out of the bar, clearly after having a few too many drinks. Poor lad, he thought, as he drew closer. Another silhouette fell down the roof of the inn and given what little context he possessed and from the way he was silently walking towards the retching man, Saburo's sense of danger flared up immediately. He only had the time to drop his bag before he dashed forward, electricity crackling around his shins as he used some chakra to speed himself up. Unlike most shinobis, the large man was not known to be the most delicate and instead of stopping the stabbing, he opted for a powerful shoulder tackle, hopefully knocking the assailant off-balance and perhaps much further away.
“What’s the meaning of this?” Saburo asked after the fact, speaking directly to the attacker. The sick man, noticing with delay what had just occurred fled back into the inn.
“You best go back from where you came from.” Saburo said, not wishing for the conflict to escalate further. Even if his eyes had acclimated to the darkness around, he couldn’t quite make out the traits of the attacker. “Doesn’t matter why you’re after that man, I’m not letting anyone get killed.”
Even if the man he saved was potentially responsible for a hundred more deaths.

HP: 340 (440 w/ C.A.) | Chakra: 7 | Regen: 5/post TAGS: Saburo NOTES:
Arata uses Bōjutsu: Taka no Kokyū [Staff Technique: Hawk's Breath] on Saburo for an attempted 150 (15 x (Nin. + Tai. + Speed)) points of damage. Bōjutsu: Taka no Kokyū [Staff Technique: Hawk's Breath] Rank: B Type: Offensive Taijutsu Affinity: Wind Action: Long Action Chakra Cost: 15 Power/Damage: 15x Effects: Nintaijutsu; Quick Attack Description: Infusing chakra in their lungs, the user of this technique exhales on their staff and coats it with a thin layer of wind. Though this wind quickly dispels, it temporarily turns the staff into a far more lethal weapon. The wind chakra enables the normally-dull item to take on a sharp edge, slicing through the air with greater ease and cutting deeper into the user's foes. [Instead of using the taijutsu score for its damage or power, the user of this technique can add their taijutsu and ninjutsu scores together (to a maximum of 20) and use that total instead. The user adds their speed to their taijutsu (or nintaijutsu), to a maximum of 25, for this attack. The user cannot use a short action this post.]Chakra: 17 (Base) - 15 (Long Action) + 5 (Recovery) = 7 Just as Arata had sped toward his target, he noticed movement out of the corner of his eye. Instinctively, his body attempted to dodge away from the approaching figure, but he reacted too slowly. A jarring impact launched him well into the nearby road. His kunai flew off in a different direction, lost in the night. Sliding across the ground, he sprung into a crouch and faced the source of the blow.
In the soft glow from the inn, he could make out a large figure standing between him and his target, who was scampering back into the building. Great, Arata grumbled internally, I’m sure it’ll be a fun time getting him out of there. He had not tracked his target down over the past few days with the intention of raiding a building, but he preferred that over losing the man completely. It would be better to move now than later. He turned his gaze back toward his attacked, a man who still crackled with chakra. Was he a shinobi, too?
“The meaning of this?” Arata repeated back as he slung his staff off of his back, a ball of frustration built up inside of him. “Do you often charge into things without knowing what’s going on? I don’t have time to explain beyond this: that man must die. Don’t stand in my way.” As he spoke, he began kneading chakra in his lungs. It was unlikely the large man in front of him would merely step aside, and Arata didn't like the thought of getting into a drawn out battle with him. It would be best to attack quickly.
Exhaling, he cloaked the staff in his hand with a swirling mass of chakra-infused wind. Then, in a sudden burst of speed, he launched himself towards his opponent, swinging at the man's knees.

The nightly confrontation was off to a great start. Saburo would have preferred to see his opponent flee the second he was found out, but he didn’t turn out to be just any ordinary assassin. He was one that could directly confront an adversary instead of only taking to the shadows. Of course, Saburo didn’t always get into other’s business -although he had a bad habit to do so-, however…
“I fail to see why a death is needed. Surely there are other ways to execute your justice, no?”
If he was guilty of anything, then prison would be a far more deserving fate. He kept his senses sharp as the shinobi withdrew his bo staff. “I’m telling you again. Go back where you came from. If you take him into custody, then I won’t bother you, though I will personally make sure you don’t execute him to satisfy whatever sinister wish you have.”
His words wouldn’t go through to the man as wind enveloped his weapon and the fast strike was heading straight for him. <Crap, fuuton affinity…> As Arata charged, Saburo cloaked himself in electricity, bright dark lightning crackling around him. Without wasting a second, he charged forward too, at a speed most impressive for someone his build. In essence, he wanted to neutralize Arata’s technique and force him into a grinding halt, but it appeared the wind user was indeed a force to be reckoned with. As he tried to bodyblock, the staff still managed to smack him on the knee, forcing him to step back.
“You’re not just any assassin…Who do you work for?” He likely wouldn’t get an answer, but at least this was a way to distract the shinobi from the damage he caused to Saburo.

TAGS: @ NOTES: Arata uses his actions to recover 5 points of chakra, building him back up to 12.
Arata’s eyes widened as a strange, dark lightning flashed around the larger man’s body. Lightning’s lightning, though, he thought, continuing his swing toward the man’s legs. Fuuton should cut right through it! He slammed the staff into his attacker’s knee, surprised slightly by the amount of resistance which pushed back against him. It seemed whatever surrounded his foe didn’t act like the typical lightning-based jutsu. He would need to analyze it.
Leaping back to a safe distance—one where his staff’s extra reach would give him an advantage—he shook his head and answered his opponent’s question. “I work for the people of this Land: those who have lost their wages, their families, and their lives to an unjust regime.” He took a breath. “I respect that you’re doing what you think is right, that you’re stepping into the middle of a conflict and trying to find a way forward for everyone. In any other situation, I’d be doing the same thing…but not with that man. Not with the daimyo’s people.”
He pointed his staff back at his attacker. “I’ll only give you one more chance: step aside.” Anticipating the large man’s response, he started building his chakra back up. The other shinobi was a good man—equal parts admirable and frustrating in his goodness. He was unlikely to step aside, unlikely to see just why a job like this must be done.

All in all, it wasn’t too bad, but that guy was a real problem to deal with. Saburo would need to be careful. He didn’t discern any lies in Arata’s words, maybe that guy was telling the truth, after all. Still, he couldn’t simply allow for a man to be killed.
“I hear you! But there’s no need to kill. You’ll never obtain true justice from that. That’s treating the symptoms, not the cause. For every misdeed that guy has committed, there are a dozen more people above making the decisions. Again, take him into custody, make him finish the rest of his life in prison if he is really guilty. But no one will find justice in his killing. Not you, not the people he’s harmed.”
Everyone had circumstances. A low-ranking official (as he assumed) like that man was probably taken in without any real choice in the matter. People would go to great lengths to put food on their plate.
“Change your approach and you might find me a lot more understanding than you think.”
Even then, he stayed on his guard, gathering chakra for the next onslaught. He did not want the man to escape anymore, especially if he had caused a lot of suffering, but Saburo drew a hard line at killing. This wasn’t a solution, not for himself or for anyone else.
