der mönch und die kirchenruine two strangers in the woods...
The night was dark, a dense blanket of blackness enveloping the land. Above, the moon shone like a great, unblinking eye, its pale light casting eerie shadows across the vast grassy plains as warm wind blew, whispers and secrets through the rustle of the grass. In the distance, the trees creaked and groaned, a stir from the shadows as if they were innately aware of the presence of the Keikan, who held dominion over all trees. Her white hair tied back in a tight tangle and a mask over her face, Kozakura Senju trailed a dirt path that wound its way through the plains of the great grass sea towards her destination. Her movements were fluid and graceful, her footsteps soft but purposeful. She was a creature of the night, and the darkness seemed to embrace her like a lover. As she made her way towards her goal, her mind was filled with thoughts of the Forest of Death. It was a place that struck fear into the hearts of even the bravest shinobi. The tangled, gnarled trees seemed to claw at the sky, their twisted limbs reaching towards the heavens like bony fingers. And it was filled with all manner of dangerous creatures, monsters preserved by thousands of years left to hunt and breed and die within the dark of the woods, a living memento of Rabbit Goddess Kaguya, and the Sage of Death. But despite its many dangers, Kozakura was drawn to the forest like a moth to a flame. Here, she had power. She could feel the life and strength of each tree like the warmth of a flame just inches from her fingers. She could feel the tangle of the roots, and how the great forest lived as one vast, interwoven machine. And it was here in her domain that she had discovered something remarkable. On her last hunting expedition to these woods, Kozakura had happened upon an ancient ruin, hidden deep within the forest beneath a brackish tangle of mud, salt and maple. It's craftsmanship told her that it was as old as the era of ninshū, if not older. The mud-stained, withered stone walls were adorned with intricate carvings, depicting scenes of great beasts and the an army of the dead. Kozakura had spent hours studying the carvings, trying to decipher their hidden meanings. But it was the sealed stone door that had captured her imagination. What secrets lay behind that door? Kozakura could feel the power emanating from it, like a palpable force. It was as if the door was alive, waiting for the right person to come and unlock its secrets. "What secrets do you hold, Jashin?" Kozakura whispered, her voice barely audible in the silence of the forest. She pressed her hand against the door, feeling the rough texture of the stone beneath her fingertips. She closed her eyes, and for a moment, she could feel the ancient power of the ruin coursing through her veins. Suddenly, her attention snapped away to behind her. She was not alone. It was only a regular night for Takai. Given he lived on his own in a treehouse, there was hardly any rule or schedule he had to follow other than his own therefore he just slept and napped at his own leisure regardless of the hour. It was not so bad honestly, and even enjoyable when he got to live the night all on his own. Sometimes it was nice just to stare at the moon even and take it in, all that which stood around him always felt alive to him, it was just how nature was.
Of course that day he happened to nap most of the day, and tonight he felt ferocious and thirsty for some flesh. Therefore he would shoot his shot with a prey from the Forest of Death, a dangerous place but one that hosted some interesting beasts and monsters that were outright delicious.
However, in the distance, at first all he could spot was someone else. He chose to investigate against his better judgment.
“Yo!”
His exclamation came off as proud and mighty, from one who did not fear that which stood before him and of course when she turned around, she would come to find him standing right there. Almost as if he had materialized out of nowhere a few moments prior; a stranger with kinder features, that did not seem to bear hostility… at the moment, but rather someone completely out of place. How come someone greeted another so easily in this place known as the Forest of Death? A place where perhaps one should hardly trust in a stranger.
“Uhh. No secrets I fear. I have got this, though…”
Takai proceeded to rummage through his belongings and in his bags, he finally made sure to wrap his hands around the one thing he sought to give her. It was nothing incredible, but it was humble and most importantly heartful, for in the end he revealed a perfectly fine peach from one of the trees he had harvested earlier. Without much regard, he tossed the fruit her way, whether she was to take it or not, it was her problem. He would collect it later otherwise.
“It is fresh. That I can promise! Anyway, I usually hunt around here, but what are you doing here? You must be the first shinobi I have ever found here. Really if this was not such a rare event I would have tested you out!”
Bluntly put, she would have been his prey, but curiosity had taken the best of him. He could not explain why some stranger was overlooking said ruins, was there something special about them? It was not a silly thought or consideration at all, he believed perhaps this one could tell him something interesting. She also had badass eyes, while he had boring dark orbs just like most people out there.
“Especially here. This place is dead and filled with dust, nothing amazing to look at.”

der mönch und die kirchenruine two strangers in the woods...
Kozakura spun around with the grace of a skilled warrior, her hand resting gently on the hilt of her katana as she prepared to defend herself against whatever danger lurked behind her. To her surprise, the danger was no beast, or monster, as she had become accustomed to this deep within the forest of death. Instead, a man with wild, spiky hair of a striking lacquer shade stood before her, his hand outstretched and holding out a single, perfectly ripe peach. "How perculiar." Kozakura said as she accepted the peach, examining it closely. It had formed well and was a perfect ripe color, and it surprised her to see that something so simple and alive could thrive out here in these woods of enshrouded shadow. As she examined it curiously, the stranger spoke a few more words, assuring her that it was fresh before unleashing a bombard of questions. "Thank you." she said, moving her hand to the side, conjuring a small peach tree from the dying soil surrounding the ruins, to keep the peach fresh as she kept the eyes fixed on him. "I am one of the few skilled enough to roam these woods unscathed," she responded confidently to one of his questions, tracing her hands over the faded engravings, faded stories and symbols of ancient times on the door to the ancient ruin. "This place was built in the era of ninshū. It's astonishing that it's still standing after all this time."Kozakura was uncertain of herself in the presence of this strange forest shinobi. Something about him told her that he wasn't a threat, or at least that he didn't mean to make himself one. She looked back to him, and found herself opening up to him in an uncharacteristically honest way. "I've been wondering how to get inside," she admitted. "I scouted around but found no other entrance than this one. Do you have any ideas?"She realized she did not even know his name. Perhaps he would answer that unspoken question, too. How pecu- what?
He eyed her somewhat confused. Wait, was that not an elaborate way to call him strange? Of course if that was the case Takai would not take kindly to that much, but he did not exactly manage to actually define what she meant properly therefore he simply let it slide and left her the peach, nevertheless he guessed there was some hint of interest in a person that could stroll around these parts without too much difficulty.
“Do not thank me. I have plenty of those.”
Takai said without much else of an information given, however again he wondered if he should not just try and send a punch in this stranger’s way. She did say she was one of the few that could roam these forests, that was something that to Takai it meant: I am strong. So of course the question of who was stronger was up now, and yet she pointed something else out: the ruins.
“What about it? It is just a bunch of stones with drawings.”
The man released an idle breath from his mouth, and looked over the gates that hid away whatever secrets she sought to unlock. He was not too sure, actually, therefore when she opened up to him, he forgot about the entire strength dilemma and instead tried to prove that he did possess the most brain power ever witnessed in the shinobi world. Thus he held a hand just beneath his chin and eyed the gates.
“It is… either a seal or there is a mechanism somewhere.”
He looked back at Koza and smirked with a thumb that pointed right at himself. There was not much other than pure confidence and charisma behind that look of his, so either he looked like an idiot or perhaps the most reliable and trustworthy guy in that moment.
“But if you want to go inside I know one easy way: I will smash the gates.”

She pondered how she might gain access to the inside of the door, as the stranger posited the obvious: a seal, or mechanism would be responsible for opening the door. She watched as the stranger gestured to himself, a look on his face that only served to feed her strange desire to trust him. Then, he spoke, and she witheld a laugh. The stranger's suggestion was like using a hammer to put in a screw. It involved smashing down the door of an ancient and pristine structure that held within it the stories and history of thousands of years etched into its surface. The mere thought of destroying such a masterpiece would send shivers down the spine of anyone with an ounce of sentimentality. But Kozakura was different. She was practical and understood that sometimes, in service of greater ambitions, one must be willing to take drastic measures. "Please," she said, stepping back and gesturing to the gates. "If you would be so kind." It was a small sacrifice to make, she reasoned, if it meant uncovering the secrets hidden within the ancient structure. Takai nearly cheered when she gave him her permission; he had been waiting all day long to find something to break! He was normally not so destructive, rather instead most of the time the boredom gathered and collected deep down his stomach for days, summers or entire winters even until he just felt like doing some good old mischief and chaos; truly the stuff of dreams. The monk-ish shinobi gave Koza a big and nice thumbs up before he simply walked over and turned upon the gate, first his hands drew back and at once, he launched them forth.
“Open sesame!”
A brief silence followed when the guy simply waited for anything to happen, but nothing would obviously happen given that he had no such knowledge to open the seal with such a silly combination of words. But it did work in some novel he read when… wait, when was the last time he read something?
“Ah, whatever. Destruction it is.”
Takai backed off and gestured to Koza to back off somewhat…
“Please go back. Like way back. Maybe up the cliff. Trust me. You don’t wanna be near me when I do what I am about to do.”
The man clapped both hands together and at once, his body began to grow, his shape shifting to the form of a beast… or a monster, even, in such a short time when most of his skin was now folded by fur and his face larger than the biggest boulder one could find, he grew in size and height as well, soon unveiling his large monkey form upon the bellows of a ravenous beast.
His large fist now closed and with no anticipation, he sought to, quite literally, destroy the gates. At least enough to break through them, he would try not to bury them under his fist.

der mönch und die kirchenruine two strangers in the woods...
Kozakura smiled as the rugged stranger offered her words of warning. There was very little in this world of shinobi that Kozakura was not confident she could endure. Since the death of her father she had spent years perfecting the art of defense. She laughed, a light and playful sound, as she watched Takai preparing to do whatever he was about to do. "Don't worry about me," she said, her tone turning more serious. "I can take care of myself. I'm no damsel in distress."As Takai began to transform, Kozakura stood firm, sweeping her leg around behind her as she weaved long and flowing handsigns through the air, the leaves, roots and trees around her swelling and splitting until they formed the shape of a small fortress around her, a bastion of impregnable defense in the clearing in the woods. From her fortress, Kozakura watched in awe as Takai's body morphed into a large, ferocious monkey. She had heard of shinobi clans who could transform into beasts before, but had never encountered one herself until now. Kozakura remained alert, scanning the treeline of the darkened woods that surrounded them. She knew that the destruction of the gates would likely attract attention, and she wanted to be ready if necessary. The gates gave way with a loud crash. "Well done," she said, nodding in approval. "But we must be quick now. There is no telling who or what may be attracted by the sound you just made. If you'd care too, I'd appreciate company as fearsome as you inside these ancient grounds."Kozakura stood at the entrance, dust and rubble in the air, looking up at the large beast with an inviting gesture toward the darkness within. Takai was always hard to read. There was of course the chance that one could potentially tell his reaction from his face expression alone, after all he did not exactly have a poker face and he was highly sensitive to emotion, so he would easily have a reaction for no reason at all.. But now there was a small, or rather, huge difference. Now that he had become this massive ape that nearly towered the infinite trees, there was little to know what he was currently feeling or thinking about, rather he just looked about with his crimson orbs now that he had destroyed the entrance that blocked the ruins.
Kozakura was right. Despite its enormous power boost, there was the fact that he had very little in semblance with the classic depiction of a ninja, if anything he was ten times as lousy and noisy in this form, and he did not know whether there was anyone else here or not, but in either case, he did not feel too concerned.
Rather…
He was getting an idea.
By all means, he would not go as far as getting in her way, he did not care what laid beneath those ruins. Rather, he found himself curious and actually inquisitive, she had proclaimed herself to be a big deal… Thus he wondered just how strong she truly was. Perhaps this called for a test.
When she invited him over to join, the beast grinned before a fist rose.
“HHHRRRYYAAAAAHHHHH!!”
And with a bellow, he launched the fist at her but before the scene could elaborate any further, another did, and so did another, all of a sudden the area was being pummeled ceaselessly, but he did not target the ruins, rather the kunoichi in her fortress and made sure not to pull back any punches. However, from the outside, he looked like a ravenous beast… could it be that in reality he had gone Berserk?
