The Narrator Role
Acting as a sort of 'Dungeon Master', the Narrator Role will be implemented to control NPC's in Narrated Threads [NA]. Narrated Threads can be solos, group threads, or even a BP for those who don't wish to write a solo story for a BP. Players who wish to become Narrators will need to apply to do so, and will be rewarded for their work.
How does it work?
A Narrator will act as a 'Dungeon Master' of sorts in 'Narrated Threads' [NA]. The Narrator will control various NPC's in the thread to pose a challenge or present a mission to the characters within the thread. For instance, the Narrator could be RP'ing as a distraught elderly woman asking the players for their help finding her missing cat, or he could be RP'ing as an antagonistic force of Shinobi set on taking down the players. Staff members are also Narrators by default.
Beginner Presentations can also be Narrated if a player wishes. In case you want your BP to be narrated, communicate well with your Narrator so you can play out the story you have in mind for your BP! Your BP will be graded the same way it would if you were writing a Solo BP.
In order to become a Narrator, you must first apply for the position. Applying can be done by replying to this thread with the application template found below. After applying, the Staff team will evaluate you to see if you are fit for the role.
Key aspects we are looking for in Narrators are for example:
- Interactivity & Fun: Being able to interact with players and present fun and interesting challenges.
- Fair Play: Being able to play fair with the characters you're narrating for. For instance, don't pit a Genin player against a Jounin NPC with twice their SSP.
- Knowledge: A Narrator needs to have a good grasp on the setting Naruto: New Era takes place in and the lore of the world, as to not present anything that could clash with what's established.
- Communication: A Narrator often needs to communicate with the players they are narrating for to make sure the challenge given is in line with their desires.
- Writing Skill: A Narrator needs to have a general good grasp on interactive writing.
After evaluating, Staff could approach you personally to talk a bit more about your application, although this might not always be the case. If you get accepted as a Narrator, you'll be given your own Discord Role as well as a congratulatory shout-out!
How Narration worksAfter being accepted as a Narrator, you'll be given permission to create a seperate OOC account on the forum which will only be used for Narration, much like the Moderators and Admins have. From then onwards, you may freely take up requests for Narrated Threads [NA] and narrate them as you see fit. There will be a Channel in our Discord Server dedicated to 'Looking for Narrators', where players can request Narrators to narrate a thread for them.Listed rules for Narrating:
1)Antagonistic NPCs: When RP'ing an antagonistic force, make sure to always have the opponents' SSP be within 80% or lower of the players' combined SSP. Additionally, NPC's have access to Standard Elemental Releases, Genjutsu, and Taijutsu. They cannot use Clan Traits, Kekkei Genkai, Items or Hiden. Tech usage and arsenals for NPC's follow the same ruling as PC characters.
2)Play fair: Narrators should always play fair and have their main objective be to satisfy the people they are narrating for. Providing challenges too difficult, pitting people against NPCs that are too strong, etc, are generally not welcome unless the player(s) you are narrating for want to lose/be challenged. Additionally, things such as godmodding/powergaming are naturally not allowed.
3)Keep the Lore consistent: Narrators are not allowed to change the lore in significant, major ways that would impact the site's setting as a whole. For example, taking control of the Fire Daimyo and turning him into a corrupt murderer. If you're unsure if the things you want to do are in line with this rule, ask a Staff member.
4)Narrated BP Clarification: When narrating for someone's BP, mechanical combat is not allowed. NPC's used may not use mechanical Jutsu, or have an SSP designated to them. This is because the PC doesn't have their SSP, or mechanical access to their actual Jutsu yet. Using Jutsu narratively however, is allowed, and this applies to your player as well.
After finishing a Narrated Thread, you may post them in the 'Narrated Threads to be Graded' thread, linked >here.<. A finished Narrated Thread can reward the Narrator with anywhere from 5,000 - 10,000 Ryo, depending on the amount of work done by the Narrator, the quality of said work, and how enjoyable it was. Simply link which of your characters you'd like your Ryo reward to be sent to!Interested? Sign up now!Name:
