Character Creation
One of the first things that you might be interested in here on Naruto: New Era is the character creation process. There is no limit to what we expect you to write, but it is encouraged that you take the time to develop the character as much as you can, so people reading your profile will have a good idea who they’re playing with. A few things and rules to keep in mind before creating a character are;
Plot & Canon - Our storyline is set in an alternate universe to the events of the manga, shortly after the end of our version of the Warring States Period, which ended 4 years ago. No canon characters (outside of ancient figures, who are different in their own ways for the purposes of our narrative) exist. No one is related to them, nor should they feature in your character’s lives. Acting like Naruto is one thing; claiming to be his sidekick or biggest fan when he doesn't exist is quite another. Of course, this also means no canon characters are allowed to be played. You can find more about the plot of our setting here.
Number of Characters – Players may make up to a maximum of seven characters. If you find that a character of yours isn't fun to play anymore but don't want to waste all that precious invested time, xp and ryō, you may do what is known as scooping. You can find more info about scooping in the death section of 06. Action Threads & Death.
At any point outside of a thread, in the same way that you might learn a new jutsu, you can spend XP to learn a new affinity that you have access to (the five basic natures + Medical). The XP cost is equal to 20 times how many affinities you already have. If you would gain a new affinity some other way, such as by gaining it from a clan ability or from a hijutsu, you don’t need to pay this cost.
Fitting the Theme - Elements of characters, techniques or items can be denied by the staff team for not fitting in with the lore or themes Naruto setting. This can be something like its physical appearance or something tonally misplaced. For example, an Uchiha should not have pronounced horns extending from their head for example, since it's not something an Uchiha can posses without Hybridization with a clan that does.
Hybridization - Sometimes, when two shinobi of differing clans have a child, it results in a shinobi with a unique combination of their parent's abilities. During character creation if you are a hybrid, choose the two clans you are hybridizing from. Only one of the clans may be an Active clan, and any clan that provides a second Kekkei Genkai element or technique tree- such as the Hatake's White Chakra or the Nara Clan's Shadow Manipulation, as they function similarly- cannot hybridize together. If both clans are passive, choose one [BASE] from each clan. If one clan is active, choose a [BASE] from the passive clan to replace the active clan's base. You can also take [BASE] traits from Active clans and hybridize them into a Passive clan, provided they adhere to rules already in play for Hybridization— such as not resulting in a character with access to more than one additional technique tree.
Things your character should know - Your character should at least have some knowledge of the current events and new powerful groups that exist in the site's own lore.

Starting Rank - When you create your character, they begin at E Rank, with 20 XP to spend freely (You can choose save this XP for later, to increase in rank or to gain more jutsu or ryō.), 20,000 ryō, two E-Rank jutsu, and 10 XP worth of jutsu (you cannot spend this 10 XP on anything else).
Gains - In Naruto: New Era, you increase your capabilities by gaining two things: XP, and Ryo. For each post you make in a thread, you gain Ryo equal to exactly 10 times the word count of that post. This means, if you made a 300 word post, you’d gain 3,000 Ryo. When you submit a thread for grading (a process that can take from 1 to 3 days on average), you gain 1 XP for each post in that thread. If the thread is completed, you may request either bonus XP or bonus Ryo. You can gain either 3 XP, or 6,000 Ryo. You can convert your XP into Ryo, at a rate of 1 XP to 2,000 Ryo.
Affinities - Most shinobi use ninjutsu which falls into using one of five different ‘elements’. These are the five basic natures, which are used in what are called ‘nature releases’ or ‘nature styles’: they are fire, wind, lightning, earth, and water. Whether by being born with a bloodline giving proficiency with a certain nature, or by having natural talent, or just by training to develop that nature within oneself, the natures that a shinobi can use are called Affinities. If you have affinities for only Fire and Earth, for example, you are able to easily use jutsu (techniques) that are Fire Release or Earth Release but not as easily, say, Water Release. While not a natural release in the usual sense, ‘Medical’ is something you can have affinity for, and will be required to use medical jutsu. There are other natures, but they aren’t available to just anyone and might be exclusive to a clan.
Starting Affinities - All characters start with two affinities, some are given to you by clan traits, for example; a mixed/combined/advanced nature release. Combined nature releases (mixed elements) require you to have their constituent natures as your two affinities, and gain the special affinity as well as a result.
You can choose to start with a minimum of one affinity and thereby gain an extra 20XP at character creation, provided you are not restricted by the traits of your chosen clan. Additionally, you can learn jutsu with a nature of one of the five basic natures (Water, Fire, Wind, Lightning, Earth) you don’t have affinity for, but their chakra cost is doubled for you. This does not apply to other nature affinities.
